Here's what Etsy charges a US seller in 2026, and what those fees do to a single order. The Etsy fee calculator on this page does the math for you, and the $25 item with $5 shipping example below shows it worked out by hand.

How much does Etsy take from a US sale?

On a normal online order you pay three fees: the listing fee, the transaction fee and the Etsy Payments processing fee. If the order came from Etsy's Offsite Ads, there's a fourth. Everything else depends on which optional services you use and how your shop is set up.

Listing and renewal fees

Publishing a listing costs $0.20, whether or not it ever sells. Listings expire after four months, and renewing costs another $0.20. If a listing has more than one in stock, Etsy charges $0.20 to renew it each time another one sells. A private listing costs $0.20 when it's purchased. Editing a listing is free.

Transaction and payment processing fees

The transaction fee is 6.5% of the item price plus whatever you charge for shipping and gift wrap. For US sellers it isn't charged on sales tax. Paid personalization counts as part of the item price, so the fee applies to it too.

With a US bank account, Etsy Payments processing is 3% of the gross order plus $0.25. That 3% is figured on the full amount, shipping and sales tax included, and it's charged on top of the 6.5% transaction fee. The $0.25 is per order, not per item.

Offsite Ads fees

If a sale is attributed to Offsite Ads, Etsy adds 15% of the order amount when your shop made less than $10,000 in Etsy sales over the past 365 days. Shops at $10,000 or more pay 12% instead, and the fee on any one order is capped at $100. Shipping and gift wrap count toward the order amount. For US sellers, sales tax doesn't.

Under $10,000 you can opt out. Once your shop crosses that line, Offsite Ads is mandatory and the 12% rate stays for the life of the shop, even if sales drop later. Either way, the fee only applies to orders the ads actually brought in.

Other charges you may see

Etsy may charge a one-time, nonrefundable shop setup fee. The amount depends on where you are and shows up during setup. There's no fixed US rate. If your listings are in a different currency from your Etsy Payments account, there's also a 2.5% conversion fee.

Etsy Ads are optional, and you control the spend with a daily budget. Shipping labels, signature confirmation and insurance cost extra, depending on the package and service. Etsy Plus is $10 a month. Pattern has a 30 day free trial and then costs $15 a month. An in-person Square sale that isn't synced to your Etsy inventory has a $0.20 Square manual fee, plus Square's own processing charge.

Some US sellers in Etsy's instant transfer beta pay 1% of the amount transferred, with a $0.25 minimum and a $1 maximum, shown before you confirm. Sales tax can apply to some Etsy seller fees. The Regulatory Operating fee and the deposit fees Etsy lists for certain other countries don't apply to a standard US bank account.

Worked example: $25 item plus $5 shipping

Say it's one item with no gift wrap, no sales tax, no extra services and no Offsite Ads. The buyer pays $30. The listing cost $0.20, the transaction fee is 6.5% × $30 = $1.95, and processing is 3% × $30 + $0.25 = $1.15. Etsy's fees total $3.30, which leaves you $26.70. That's before you've paid for the postage, the materials or your time.

If the same order came through Offsite Ads at 15%, that's another $4.50, so fees total $7.80 and you're left with $22.20 before costs. At the 12% rate the ad fee is $3.60, fees total $6.90, and $23.10 is left. The $0.20 listing fee was probably charged weeks earlier, but it's still part of what that item cost you to sell.

FAQ

Does Etsy charge fees on shipping?

Yes. The 6.5% transaction fee applies to the shipping you charge, and payment processing is figured on the order total, shipping included. Offsite Ads fees include shipping too when an order is attributed to the ads.

Does Etsy charge a fee if my item does not sell?

Only the $0.20 listing fee, which you pay when you publish. It's charged again if the listing renews after four months. Transaction and processing fees only happen when something sells.

Can I opt out of Etsy Offsite Ads?

Yes, as long as your shop is under $10,000 in Etsy sales over the past 365 days. Once you reach that, Etsy's current policy makes it mandatory, and attributed orders are charged 12%.

Is the $25 item example my profit?

No. What's left after Etsy's fees still has to pay for postage, the item itself, packaging, your time and the occasional failed piece. Take those out before you call anything profit.
